As part of Immigrant Heritage Month, Rivera went behind the camera for a special project in partnership with Welcome.us, a nonprofit organization "dedicated to celebrating a United States that is fueled by an immigrant tradition." She told BuzzFeed that the story resonated with her on a personal level, and that "everyone has an immigration story." "Immigration shows how beautiful America is as a country," she continued, noting also that if everyone felt that way, there'd be much less contentious political discourse on the subject.

The short film sees a diverse bunch of New York City residents passing a ~**mYSteRiOUs**~ envelope along like a very literal chain letter of sorts, except you don't get visited by a malevolent ghost if you don't share it with 17 friends, thank goodness. (At least, I assume you don't but then I haven't received the letter myself and am not even checking my email today just to play it safe. #SoThere.) At the conclusion of the film, one lucky lady gets to open it and read the heartwarming message inside.

Realistically though, if a New Yorker were to hand a note to someone standing there just looking confused in the middle of Times Square, it would probably say something like, "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY, TOURIST." Because New Yorkers are a polite bunch like that. <3
