The Nepal earthquake, which hit at a massive 7.8 on the Richter scale, has leveled much of the country and has a death toll that keeps rising as the hours pass — now, 3,700 people are believed to be dead, according to reports.

Among them is Dan Fredinburg, the ex-boyfriend of actress Sophia Bush. Upon learning the news, she posted a moving tribute to the Google exec, who was on a hike up Mt. Everest to raise money for two Nepali orphanages.

"Today I find myself attempting to pick up the pieces of my heart that have broken into such tiny shards, I'll likely never find them all," she wrote. "Today I, and so many of my loved ones, lost an incredible friend. Dan Fredinburg was one-of-a-kind. He was one of my favorite human beings on Earth. He was one of the great loves of my life. He was one of my truest friends. He was an incredible brother, a brilliant engineer, and a damn good man. I'm devastated and simultaneously so deeply grateful to have known and loved him, and to have counted him as one of my tribe."

The actress has urged her followers to visit Fredinburg's Crowdrise fundraising site to help those affected by the natural disaster. So far, more than $28,000 has been donated to the cause.

Our hearts are with the people of Nepal and all those affected by the disaster.
