Gigi Hadid walked the red carpet at the American Music Awards looking about ten inches of hair lighter — but then sidestepped questions about her transformation, telling Giuliana Rancic only that "tricks of the trade" were involved.  Now her hairstylist, Matrix stylist Bryce Scarlett, is revealing her secret: Hadid's lob was indeed thanks to a half wig that was cut and attached to the back of her head, Scarlett confirmed.

Since the front layers of Hadid's hair are already cut bob-length, all Scarlett had to do was cut the wig to match the length of her face-framing pieces, tuck the back of her real hair under the wig, and then blow all of her hair out with a round brush and Matrix's StyleLink Gloss Booster to get it super-silky. So you're essentially looking at Gigi's real hair with the secret half-wig attached underneath.

"Gigi wanted to do something short and sleek because of the high neckline of her dress," Scarlett told Cosmopolitan.com.

Well, goal achieved. Also, Gigi, you should totally consider going for the short style for real. It looks chic AF on you!

Carly Cardellino was the beauty director at Cosmopolitan. If you follow her Instagram, then you know she'll try just about any beauty trend or treatment once (the pics of her purple hair are on IG to prove it). But her favorite part about being in beauty is finding the most effective products, and then sharing that intel with others—because who wants to spend money on stuff that doesn't work? No one, that's who. Her most recent discovery: De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment, which will change your blemish-clearing game! Hopefully through the beauty stories she writes—and the experiences she shares—you can see exactly why she's in this business.
